A potty thought

Whilst on her routine trip to Northallerton this morning aunty biscuit called in for the first time to a recently opened café/pot painting establishment.   Sadly she didn’t have enough parking time to paint anything but did enjoy her cup of tea.  As she has previously done pottery painting on holiday in somewhere called Jersey and sometimes paints plant pots and plant sticks, I‘m keeping my paws crossed that either I will be the proud recipient of a personalised doggy bowl or be asked to model as a design for a mug.  These types of place can be good as they give people a taster of relaxing hobbies without having to lay out a lot of pennies that could be better used for buying dog treats or dog coats.  They also do things like casts or paint handprints of children which is good, I wonder if they do paw or nose casts of dogs?  I have absolutely no doubt that aunty biscuit will go and create something and wonder whether she will take mum al ...

Coyote sweep

Hi, Harrier is the name and leaping is the game.  Marty is having a day off so I’ve stepped in.  Following cousin Fluffys blog, we have checked out coyotes on woofapedia to see what one looks like and where it sits on the scentometer.  I can report back that there are no coyotes in our back garden, nor in any of the recycling boxes between here and the paddock.  The perimeter of the paddock has been secured and the trees scent marked (Needs a man dog for that, although I’m sure Marty will disagree).  I wanted to set up surveillance cameras, but aunty biscuit pointed out that it would be over the top as coyotes don’t live in the UK.  I accept this ruling but remain vigilant.

Of fleas and nettles

Lounging on the sofa a few evenings ago, supervising Mum working on her rug (its coming along nicely although, apparently these things take ages to make) and Aunty Biscuit crocheting eyeballs (best not to even ask…although I believe its for a character hat for someone) when the programme on the television alarmed me by mentioning flea markets!!!!  Given that we regularly have stuff rubbed into the back of our necks to stop us catching them, and you could obtain them from your local hedgehogs for nothing) I was surprised that anyone would want to buy any or import them.  I was relieved when Mum explained that that it was just a term for a market where you could buy bits and pieces and not fleas.  Phew!

On patrol

Yesterday the weather was somewhat inclement which meant we elected to take our morning walk around the village on a route which we hadn’t been on for a couple of days.  We caught up on a few new scents, saw a couple of doggie acquaintances and generally paddled about.  This morning the weather was a lot better, so we went to our more normal venue –the paddock. Here we noticed that there were loads and loads of dandelion clocks everywhere.  I’m sure these are what encourages mum to think pompoms.  I’m sure she would put a pompom on everything if she got chance.   The lilac tree is blooming, I was wondering whether the colour of the blossom may be one to consider as part of my forthcoming blankie, before being distracted by finding something interesting to roll in.  I was then told off and rubbed over with a pet wipe.....

Postcard from the Rockies - Introducing Fluffy

When my cousins Harrier and Marty asked me if I would like to write something for their extremely awesome blog, how could I possibly refuse?

So my name is Fluffy, although many also call me Fluff or Fluffball. Some of the high-plains cowboys, who don't concern themselves too much about being polite, just yell "dog" really loudly when they want me to do something (but in those situations I try to pretend that I am asleep, so didn't hear them).

I've been spectating as Harrier has been measured for his forthcoming dog jumper.  He has been measured round just behind the front legs and round the base of his neck.  Lengthwise he's been checked from neck to bum and bits in between.  Because he is a boy dog the underneath bit can't be too long for hygeine reasons.  He was very happy to be measured and was given a new squidgy ball as a present.  Its a very pretty shade of purple but I fear it may have a short life span, time will tell.  Initial design sketches for the jumper are now in progress.   Photographs and patterns will follow in due course, keep an eye on the pet accessories page of the website.

Oh Deer

Whilst skyping cousin fluffy the other day about Frank, I happened to mention about my favourite dog treat of dried venison.  I wasn’t entirely sure what one is but it is very tasty.  Fluffy said it was a deer and they have loads of them on the ranch.  The discussion left me thinking about some other words bandied about that I needed to research as I’d never seen the animal involved.

A Tail of Blankie. Part 1

Concerned by reports in the press that we are heading for a very cold winter I have put an order in with Aunty biscuit for a new blankie.  Left to me the specification would be for one made of softest alpaca and the size of a football pitch.  I suspect that the end result will fall short of this but one can but hope.

Protracted delicate negotiations have resulted in me having to settle for a good sized blankie made from acrylic double knitting wool consisting of crocheted hexagons.  It’s a good job I’m so reasonable and not a spoilt little dog . I have included a picture of last years meagre attempt.  I do however have a cunning plan…… !

Of wisteria and cats

Whilst wandering about on our walk we went past one of the village houses where the front is covered in wisteria.  It’s a beautiful lilac shade and the form of the flowers as they cascade down is like a floral chandelier.  We all mused on this until two thirds of the canine element, myself included, became a teensy bit distracted by a cat.  I think either aunty biscuit or mum should be inspired enough by it to do me a blanket edging but suspect it is more likely to end up as something human, the wisteria that is, not the cat.  Can you imagine someone peering out from under a wisteria hat edging?  Or trailing it through some soup on the edge of a jumper?  Perhaps it would make a nice welly topper?  Being trapped in a car door as a scarf? Mums wisteria is only just starting to flower so she should have plenty of time to come up with some sketches and colour selecting should she choose to go down that route.
