Cabled Snood made in super chunky yarn

This free knitting pattern for a cabled snood was originally designed for as a pattern for a girl who wanted something warm to wear around her neck for winter but without the risk of wearing a scarf which could get caught in things.  The snood is light soft and comfortable against the skin while the giant cables give it an interesting texture and look.

Total preparation time is probably about 4 - 8 hours depending on experience.

Requirements:

1 x 20mm knitting needles
1 x cable needle
1 x 200g ball of Patons Fab Super Chunky Yarn

 P     Purl (number after it refers to how many stitches to purl)
     
C3B     Slip the next 3 sts onto a cable needle and leave at back of work.  Knit the following 3 sts from the left hand needle then knit across the 3 sts on the cable needle

Pattern:
Print copy of free knitting pattern ribbed bobble hat

To make snood (make 1):
Using 20mm needles, cast on 42 stitches.
Row 1:  [P2, K6] repeat to last 2 sts, P2
Row 2:  [K2, P6] repeat to last 2 sts, K2
Row 3:  [P2, C3B] repeat to last 2 sts, P2
Row 4:  [K2, P6] repeat to last 2 sts, K2
Repeat these 4 rows until the yarn is completed, allowing enough yarn to cast off.

 

 

To make up

Carefully sew down the side of the snood to complete, leaving the top and bottom open.  Secure all loose ends.
