Latch Hook Making

Last night was spent enjoying the company of my friends Lesley and Jo.  The evening was fairly typical for when we get together and was spent discussing animals and hobbies etc.  This evening was slightly different as Jo has just bought a new house so much of the discussions we around what needed to be done to new house.  These conversations lead onto crafts that can make something nice for the house while occupying your mind for long periods of time.  Personally I have alway sound knitting to be perfect for this as I can do it without thinking, while talking to friends or watching the TV and it keeps my hands busy so I am not tempted to bite my nails.  Unfortunately in this case knitting was not suitable as the project may need to be left at short notice.

A typical sunday evening

I’m fully stretched out on one sofa supervising mum who is sewing.  Well technically she is mending a horse rug.  Instead of a normal thread she is using craft thread which is very strong and a pair of pliers. Bizarre.  The pliers it would seem replace a thimble and are used to grab the needle and pull it through.  Despite a normal everyday needle being used, she hasn’t broken one yet much to my suprise.   The rug in question is a 6ft 3inch rug, I feel this would be perfect for keeping me dry if it rains like it did this morning, but mum says it would be a little bit big for me.

Bamboozled by bamboo

Aunty biscuit has some new bamboo socks.  I thought that pandas ate bamboo shoes but as there are no reports of nibbled socks or panda infestations between her toes, I can only assume that I misheard and it is bamboo shoots that they eat.

Squared Jumper

It has been another unseasonably chilly start this morning.  Mum took us on our walk wearing her very colourful squared jumper.  Its made in chunky yarn.  She has promised us she will eventually put the pattern on the web site, I’m not holding my breath over it being up shortly.  Aunty biscuit has a similar one with bigger squares –there is a lot more of her to cover- and a different colour scheme.  She says there are two big advantages to it, 1) you can use up loads of part balls from your stash & 2) you only need to use a small amount of a favourite yarn.

Paper Shredding

We’re slightly in the doghouse today.  The parish magazine arrived and had been left where we could get our paws on it, so it ended up a bit on the shredded side, although some may call it totally destroyed.  She never learns…. We are however less messy than Jack had been, he managed to disperse an entire bin bag of shredded paper around the entire ground floor of the house. The house looked like it had been covered in snow.  Mum learned from this that shredded paper is not the easiest of things to clear up and can travel amazingly long distances.  Not that we’re competitive, but does anyone know where we can obtain a skip full of shredded paper? (but don’t tell mum).  Jack was our predecessor so we never met him.  He was a slobbery boxer with apparently a really sweet nature.

Spring moulting

I read mums blog on how inspirational spring can be.  My take is slightly different.  Apart from everwhere coming alive and extra birds to woof at, it’s not a time of joy, the heating is turned off, my blanket numbers are cut and I moult and grow a summer coat which is thinner.  But what to do with the discarded hair?

Let me introduce myself.  My name is Rosemata (or Marty to my friends).  I have been invited to enlighten you all through this blog, with a unique view of the crafting world which comes from about 14 inches off the floor.  Although I think I misheard as I was sure we were discussing a block of cheese. Hopefully this blog will entertain and amuse you.  You may even learn something!

Spring Time

Don't you just love spring time.  That first burst of colour to the garden.  The blossom on the trees.  The number of variations of the colour green you can see in the hedgerow.  The world just comes to life again in a sudden flash pushing away the dormancy of winter.  Even for us spring brings new energy and vigour.  Makes you pleased to be alive.  That first glow that comes as you feel the sun on your back pushing away the winter chill.  Suddenly everything changes, the need to prepare for the summer...  to bring out those summer clothes although deep down you know it is still too cold sir a sun dress and sandals...   to spring clean the home and dust off the BBQ...   eating your lunch outside in hat, coat and gloves.

Have you ever noticed the odd things that inspire you. Ideas for colours and textures can come from the most unexpected places, a cup of coffee, cream on the top of a hot chocolate, a fallen leaf, a tree covered in snow.

Stashes of Wool

I have to admit it, my stash of wool is currently a little on the large`side.  From 3 ply to mega chunky, through the colour spectrum of red to violet with white and black,to brushed soft  fluffy, craft cotton and textures in between, most areas are represented.  I don’t however feel that I have too much wool.  Is there such a thing as too much wool?  You never know when you mayneed an emergency ball of turquoise double knitting or need to knock up an ecru dishcloth, at least I know that  should either of these scenarios or many others occur I’m well prepared
