A tail of blankie part 3

OUTRAGED!  Due to a slight nibbling incident Harrier is also having a blanket of a different design and his need is greater than mine. Work keeps being suspended on my blanket, his is going to be a knitted one.  He’s a little put out though as I keep testing his partially constructed blankie for warmth and workmanship.  It has however swayed me into having a chocolate border around each hexagon for mine. This is at the partially sewn up stage andI’ve tried it on and can confirm that at this size, should I be invited to a fancy dress party or need to go incognito to avoid the paparazzi  I have a tortoise outfit.

Laburnum

The laburnum trees are in full bloom and looking very pretty with their delicate chains of yellow flowers although a tad windswept.  They are however something we need to keep away from as they are poisonous.  Mum likes yellow enough that she wrote a blog about it.  I am still persuading them do something inspired by wisteria but I think I’ll maybe add laburnum to the list as well.  I have to say however, that I do find that as these trees have a very strange colour and texture for the trunk so will amend that to laburnum flowers.  I’m thinking that they would both look pretty on a teacosy or a scarf.

A blustery evening

i think it is fair to say that the weather is somewhat inclement this evening.  The only sensible thing to do is curl up under a blankie and snooze.  If it looks like anyone is going to encourage you to go out, pretend to be fast asleep.  I have been keeping an eye on human activity and conversation.  Aunty Biscuit has been sewing something up until i was ready to dictate todays blog to her and mum has been doing some web editing.  One of the conversations has been about a test hat in chunky wool for a doll.  There is a review of the shaping and debate about what to top it off with that will keep proportions and be a suitable colour. My money is on a pompom in a thinner yarn as mum is involved.  There is also a scarf to go with it.  This is the same design as a green and white one that they knitted me last winter but sadly it has been mislaid so I'm hoping a replacement will be forthcoming at some point.

Box contents revealed

I have found out what was in the box discussed in yesterdays blog.  It’s a bed/seat thing that dangles from a frame.  When assembled it will enable mum to lounge about on the patio and have room for both me and Harrier. Alternatively it will allow me and Harrier to lounge and grudgingly make room for mum.  Apparently the cushions are ecru in colour so it is suspected that mum will be doing some sort of sewing to make something she considers a bit more dog practical.  For those dogs who aren’t sure what colour ecru is mum has a picture of knitted dishcloths in it but I can tell you It is one of those delicious colours that shows every pawmark, dog hair and muddy mark to their best advantage. First one to fall in the pond and then sit on it is likely to be told off though!

My skateboard

I’m a little irritated that people are borrowing my skateboard without so much as a by your leave.  You may think it a little odd that a dog has a skateboard but its true.  Because I’m such a clever little dog, mum bought a book on things to keep dogs like me thinking rather than plotting and one of the things recommended was skateboarding.  Aunty biscuit was tasked with procuring a skateboard.

Parachute cord crafting

Aunty biscuit has reported that you can now get a magazine about tying knots or plaiting parachute cord.  Clearly this is going to be the next trend and is something I have come across as Aunty Ange sometimes works with it on a craft night.  She generally makes equine accoutrements such as bridle brow bands and things to grab on the front of the saddle.  It is quite interesting to watch from a safe distance.

Butterflies

Aren’t butterflies pretty?  They come in so many different colours and flutter about in the sunshine.  Aunty biscuit says when she sees one in the paddock it reminds her of a sunny afternoon when I was a puppy.  I’d been skipping about and she’d wondered what I was doing.  It turns out I was chasing a butterfly.  Needless to say I didn’t catch it.  I must admit my memories of that day are a little hazy.  Mum created a caterpillar dolls scarf, I’m thinking she should do a butterfly shawl to go with it maybe based on a red admiral or painted lady as opposed to a cabbage white, but I guess the shaping will need a lot of work.

A tail of blankie. Part 2

I’ve had a busy time helping select and approve colours for my new blankie.  we've had debates as to whether each component round of a hexagon should be the same colour or multicoloured, settling for solid colour in the end. i've been supervising the construction of the initial hexagons but we haven't put the edging on yet as it is undecided whether to put an edging on each one or just t put a colour around the edge of the blanket.  I have also managed to appropriate a couple of hexagons that aunty biscuit had made to go in her bedspread, as she needs a couple of hundred she won't miss the odd pawfull. If it wasn't for the fact that some of her colour choices are impractical for dogs I might have attempted to persuade her to hand the lot over.

Birdwatch

The fat collared dove as discussed in my blog regarding saturday mornings is once again sat in the mesh tray.  This has put my mind to birds.  I re-read mums blog on pheasants.  Being human she has a strange view of them.  I’d like to share my thoughts on them.  If you’re small terrier sized they are big.  They can fly which complicates catching them.  If you did catch one the feathers would give you away.  Research indicates that they class as game. Thus pheasants inspire me when they are in foil tray marked beef & game Yum…  That said, my favourite brand has a lovely shade of purple on the lid.  I am however pondering as whether you could do a pheasant themed blanket.  I think it would probably need to either be knitted with a pheasant pattern on it, either looking real or a stylised tessellation concoction (i.e. interlocking with no gaps).  An alternative would be crocheted in pheasanty colours . ...

Harrier accidently dropped his favourite ball off the sofa into aunty biscuits craft bag.  We peered in expectantly until she retrieved it for us.  I can exclusively reveal the contents that I briefly glimpsed consisted of :-
