Childs's Pumpkin Bobble Hat


Here you will find another of the Nixneedles Novelty Knitting patterns an child's bobble hat for that cold night out trick or treating.  The hat contains a central pumpkin motif knitted into the front of the hat.   This pattern is made with double knitting yarn and is easy if you are familiar knitting with different coloured yarns.


Requirements:

1x 100g double knitting yarn (Black)

1x 50g double knitting yarn (Bright Orange)

1x 10g double knitting yarn (Green)
1 pair of 4 mm knitting needles.
Needle for sewing up.

Pattern:
Print copy of free knitting pattern ribbed bobble hat
To make hat (make 1):
Using 4mm needles cast on 88 stitches, using orange yarn.
Row 1:  [K1, P1] to end
Row 2: [K1, P1] to end
Repeat these 2 rows, a further 6 times (16 rows in total). Change to Black yarn and starting with a knit row, work 7 rows in stocking stitch.

Joining in orange and green yarns as required, complete pattern A as follows:

Next row:  K33, work row 1 of pattern A, K33

Next row:  P33, work row 2 of pattern A, P33

Repeat these 2 rows substituting in the appropriate line from pattern A until pattern is complete.  Secure off orange and green yarn.  Using black yarn work three further rows in stocking stitch.

Shape Crown:
Row 1:  [K6, K2tog] repeat to end  (77 sts)
Row 2:  Purl to end
Row 3:  [K5, K2tog] repeat to end (66 sts)
Row 4:  Purl to end
Row 5:  [K4, K2tog] repeat to end (55 sts)
Row 6:  Purl to end
Row 7:  [K3, K2tog] repeat to end (44 sts)
Row 8:  Purl to end
Row 9:  [K2, K2tog] repeat to end (33 sts)
Row 10:  Purl to end)
Row 11:  [K1, K2tog] repeat to end (22 sts)

Row 12:  Purl to end

Row 13:  [K2tog] repeat to end (11 sts)
Break off yarn, thread yarn through remaining stitches and secure.

 

To make up

Carefully sew down back of hat ensuring that the seam cannot be seen on the outside of the hat.  Secure all the ends and make a small pompom out of the orange yarn and attach to the top of the hat.
