Salad days

What is it with humans and salad? They eat it?? Hello. Its not even worth looking at never mind looking hopeful of being given some to eat (but never outright begging).  I suppose some of the things in it could potentially be used by crafters to make dye, but you would need more than a plate full to do that.  I suppose if the shell was left on the egg you could decorate it, possibly not quite to the standard of Faberge though I suspect.  Language skills development by the addition of a crouton?   And I suppose they are quite colourful.  On balance they may have more going for them than first supposed but I'd rather have my normal tea.

And I'm back!

I've been very remiss with my diary recently as life has been a bit chaotic but finally managed to get my paws on the computer.  So to catch up on a few things.  I'm disgusted with the weather - it 's been very wet recently yuk, then we have had a cold spell with frost and snow showers! in  April! its outrageous! I've just acquired my summer coat.  I am pleased to report that the rug which seems to have dragged on for ages is now not too far off being finished.  There is a dolls dress in the pipeline - you heard it here first, along with something as yet unidentified in white cotton currently parked on the coffee table.  I became all excited at one point as there was talk of squirrels followed by disappointment that they were made of thin card and done on a die cutting machine.

Spring watch

Has anyone told the weather that it is supposed to be spring?  As someone who hates getting her paws wet, I'm electing to stay firmly on the sofa watching the soggy world go by.  I suspect that mum has other plans for me.  I don't think she will not take a lot of persuading to lounge with some knitting!

Anglo Saxon art

Aunty Biscuit was dog sitting yesterday evening.  We watched a really good programme about Anglo Saxon artefacts.  I have given this a great deal of thought and now wonder considering all the wonderful rich colours they had in their jewellery and books like the Lindisfarne gospels, why on earth do they call it the dark ages?  I also think someone should knit me an Anglo Saxon inspired blanket but I'm not holding my breath.

Fastenings

How many different types of fastener can there possibly be out there?  I ask because the finishing touches to a project are just being done .  On this occasion plastic poppers have been used. I was surprised that there was no big debate over this until mum explained that the type of fastening choices need to be made at the beginning. Other options were considered at that point. Buttons, which thinking about it would need button holes.  Loop and hook tape, strongly suspected of being related to the sticky jack plant which the collie collects on her coat at the correct time of the year.  Metal press studs. Some were total non starters such as a zip.  Haven't they heard of duct tape I ask?

Colour chaos

I've been supervising Aunty Biscuit sorting colour strands into heaps, at least she has been putting them in heaps and I've been remixing them.  The names can be confusing though.  Medium green ,dark green, emerald which is which? Blue, periwinkle errm? bright pink, medium pink thats a bit easier.  Its a good job Aunty Biscuit can sort it and its character building for her.

Design thoughts

We haven't told Mum she can do us or own rug yet, but we are thinking of potential ideas for the design of it.  Colours would ideally need to be practical although I personally would rather like a pale pink background - very feminine, whereas Harrier would prefer a nice blue.  The collie would like a tennis ball design on the rug, Harrier a bone design and myself little bows.  I'm not sure we can combine all these and some compromises may be necessary.  I'm optimistic that mum will soon be able to knock up a pale pink rug with a blue border decorated with bows quite easily.

Rugmaking

Aunty Biscuit has just had a few days holiday in Gosport staying with Aunty Viv.  To celebrate her return we instructed Mum to supervise her starting on her rug making kit we bought her for her birthday.  Harrier is eying it up as a potential tummy warmer.  Jog on pal, it has a white background not the most practical colour for dogs, especially when moulting.  When Mum has finished her project we may need her to design one for us.

Sewing up

Aunty Biscuit has several projects that are at the sewing up stage, I can count at least 4 on my claws without any effort. To save her a lecture It is going to cost her at least a dog treat each for me and Harrier not to sprag on her to Granny Biscuit who is a finish one thing completely and move onto the next sort of knitter.  Mum is somewhere between them on this scale

Snip snip

My latest theory is that Aunty Biscuits rug kit has encouraged Mum to work a bit more on her rug.  Harrier says no, its because she has some more wool to go into it.  Either way, she's happily snipping away making strands for it.  She enjoys this part as a relaxation.
