Bargain hunting

Mum and Aunty Biscuit usually investigate anything on special offer.  They landed back the other day with a half price large dog bed for the collie.  Aunty Biscuit was looking at the medium size but mum thought the large one made more sense.  Whilst we have yet to see whether it is the right size for a collie, we can confirm that it comfortably accommodates one small terrier – just.  We suspect there may just be room for both of us on it at a push.....

Catalogue takeover.

Paws up those who have an owner who will always browse through a household gadget catalogue, folding down the corner of certain pages containing items which look interesting, useful or need to restock.  Such a catalogue has come into our possession.  Whilst we personally don’t need any of these things, in addition to the already marked vegetable drill, clothes pegs and freezer bags we have sneakily folded a few more pages for gadgets as follows...

Pony washing results

Grey pony has been successfully bathed We had a little bet on how it would go.  Mum only got damp so we’re not sure who won.  As the prize was only a dead bluebottle we’re not too concerned, and have decided to share it.  She used dirty beastie shampoo which has brought him up lovely and apparently he smells nice too   I thought she could have used some of our fox poo remover shampoo on him (hopefully all of it, so that we miss next bathtime) but mum says he doesn’t need it as horses don’t tend to intentionally roll in fox poo.  I am going off horses!

Grey pony needs a bath!  We were trying to work out how mum was going to get him home, into the bath, how big a towel he would need and how much we could charge for tickets.  So we were slightly disappointed to learn that horses are bathed differently to us dogs but are still not always co-operative.  Cleaning utensils of choice for pony bathing are as follows: ......

Scallops

I’ve been watching TV with Aunty Biscuit whilst she untangled a ball of yarn (she often ends up with her yarns in a tangle) and Harrier who has been doing a bit of what I believe is called “manscaping”.  An advert came on for a frozen food company which confused me completely.  They had black tiger prawns that were clearly pink and wild caught scallops.......

Open road

“The road” is open again. It had been closed for a long time as half of it fell down the bank.  They seem to have fixed it with a bit of glorified chicken wire and what looks like black plastic sheeting although I suspect there is more to it than that given how much repairs cost.  They have also put some very shiny crash barriers up.  The great thing about this re-opening is that it puts one of my favourite riverside walks back on the menu.  I like to sniff out bunny trails, collie likes to play in the water and Harrier likes to scamper.  Mum likes to take in the ambience of being near water and looking for inspiration for upcoming projects or colour combinations.  Aunty Biscuit is happy as it makes visiting relatives and buying malt extract easier.  To celebrate Mum bought the horses some wormer each, I don't think they were that impressed with it though judging by the amount she came back wearing.

I’ve recently been supervising attempts to drag Aunty Biscuit into the modern world of gadgets.   Left to her own devices she’d be daubing the walls of her cave with pictures of woolly mammoths with a charcoal stick from a fire or standing on the top of a hill with a pair of flags communicating in semaphore (they learnt things like that when she was in the girl guides).....

A sticky situation

This evening Mum and Aunty Biscuit have been executing phase 2 of operation redcurrant jelly.  (Phase 1 was boil them up with some water and strain it overnight through some muslin).  Phase 2 consists of measuring the amount of juice, adding sugar to it, boil until setting point then put in hot jars.   ...

Being bathed

Due to an unfortunate encounter with a field where slurry had been spread and a joyous session rolling in it, the B word was been bandied about.  None of the canine members are keen on this activity although mum seems to like it.  She has a lovely bath mitt thing that she designed, but I digress....

Freaked but not bruised.

Aunty Biscuit has been up to Teesdale visiting her family.  They had a freak hailstorm up there whilst she was on holiday which had massive hailstones.  A nursery had a lot of panes of glass broken and a lot of cars were damaged.  Aunty Biscuit saw one, it had little dents all over the roof and bonnet.  Uncle R saved one of the hailstones and put it in his freezer,  it's bigger than my paw!  I'm very relieved that I wasn't there as I would imagine that it would be very painful to be hit by one.
