Thanks to the new bulb and orange thread phase 1 of curtain making is complete.  A ceiling mounted curtain pole was fixed into place with a great deal of going up and down the step and one or two words which I am far too ladylike to

Sleeves and curtains

The second sleeve has now been cast off on Aunty Biscuits jumper.  This now just leaves the front, the neck and sewing up to do, hopefully this will be completed before the end of November, if not earlier.  It will of course depend on how long it takes her to find the 5.5mm needles that are currently mislaid somewhere safe.  I also am putting my money on her asking Mum to pick up the neck for her.  Mum meanwhile is continuing with the curtain making.  It had been curtailed as the correct shade of orange thread needed procuring and the light bulb had gone on the sewing machine.  It was necessary to dismantle the side of the sewing machine to establish that it takes a bayonet fitting bulb.  As both items have now been acquired and the bulb fitted, she is good to go.

Ooops

I was somewhat smug earlier in the week when Harrier was in the frame for shredding a loo roll and scattering it all over the lounge floor.  I was known to be innocent as had been with Mum all the time from vacating the lounge to coming back and seeing the chaos.  Admittedly Harrier wasn’t caught in the act but history is against him on this.  Needless to say

September review

Well October has arrived so its time to review things from September.  There are still several apples to deal with and more to harvest.  These are likely to be eaten as is, dehydrated, made into apple crumble base and then frozen or made into apple sauce.  The mermaid tail is yet to be delivered due to lockdown but at least it is done.  The grey pony continues to practice his smiling and Harriers new hobby is going really well, he seems to have an eye for the unusual to put it mildly.  There are also still some potatoes to harvest as well.  I am also thrilled to announce that as yet no further spiders have invaded the house.  Aunty Biscuit is continuing well with her knitted jumper.  September has indeed been a busy and productive month and I suspect October will be similar.

Curtain making

Mum has been spending time on curtains.  We have spectated as she has altered a very pretty net curtain which had red embroidery which was fairly straight forward as it involved removing the top and making a new channel and she has now started to dismantle one very large orangey

Arachnid antics

It is the time of year where random large spiders start to appear in houses.  Mum came into the study to find me nose to nose with one such beast.  Normal procedure is that I stand guard whilst Mum goes for a glass to scoop it up and evict it from the premises.  As this specimen had a body about the size of the London

A difference of opinion

Aunty Biscuit is using up a couple of odd small balls of aran weight yarn into hexagons for a small blanket.  I think that she should give it to me as a Christmas present when finished as it would be the perfect foil for my glossy black fur and red collar.  I can see that there may be slight resistance to my plan which will go along the lines of it not being a practical colour because of dog hairs and paw marks (although I am sure that that is why the washing machine was

A long advent

One of Mums lockdown project aspirations was to finally finish a fabric quilted pocketed advent calendar.  I am pleased to announce that after about twenty years and a couple of house moves it has finally been completed and very pretty it is too.  The thing that we have to do now is start thinking of things to sneak

Rosehip vodka

Aunty Biscuit is having a go at experimenting making rosehip vodka.  This is an unusual choice of base for her as she maintains that vodka makes her your tongue go numb and other people fuzzy around the edges.  The recipe she was going to try said that the hips needed to be firm and not overripe.  Unfortunately, most of the tame ones she was going to use from the garden have now gone too squishy so she has been out catching relatively accessible wild ones.  This involved carefully entering the ditch in front of the hedge and clambering out again. This needs supervision as we don’t want her falling in and blocking

Rainbows

We have been admiring a double rainbow this afternoon.  Rainbows are very beautiful and very colourful and as far as I can tell need sunshine and rain to exist.  Legend has it that there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, the reality on this one was that there appeared to be some shrubs.  Mum did a rainbow tea cosy for someone once which was also very pretty and my favourite dog coat has rainbows and unicorns on it (everyone says I look really cute in it).  On the Aunty Biscuit front, the mermaid
