Travelling home in the lovely sunshine the other evening, I passed a field of oil seed rape in full bloom.  

Yellow is one of those colours that divides opinion, you either love it or hate it.  Getting it right a splash of yellow can add a touch of zing to a garment but get it wrong it can be a bit bilious.

At the beginning of the winter, I was commissioned to knit a hat and scarf set for a person who didn't like yellow but wanted a multicoloured hat and scarf set that was practical.  The result was the striped hat and scarf set the pattern for which is available on the Nixneedles site.  To totally remove one of the primary colours from a garment takes some very careful planning and ensuring that there are plenty of warm colours to balance out the remaining colours.  For this commission, following careful conversation with the client, I used a very small amounts of yellow colour in the scarf to trend between the colours.
