Outdoor Soft Furnishings

May 18 2014

We are having a spell of warm sunny weather. The dogs are enjoying basking in the warmth whilst I’m relaxing on my garden swing generally reading or knitting.  A couple of the cushions on the swing are starting to look a bit shabby and could do with new covers.  I think it is time to think about measuring up and either making a trip to the fabric shop or a good rummage through my wool stash to see if anything is suitable.

I’m thinking of either butterfly or paintbox floral type print if I choose fabric, or neutrals and chocolate if I knit the covers.  Of course I will then fall in love with something totally different and then either agonise over whether to buy it for the cushions or to make something else with depending on whether it will fit in with the other colours.  The last summer cushions I made were knitted and quite unique in both the colour and the texture.  Although they we one of the simplest cushions I have made the effect was outstanding.

Unfortunately with knitted cushions if they are in regular use they can tend to start to bobble and look warn after a season or twos use.  Todays wool are very soft to the touch with beautiful colours and textures but not as hard wearing as the yarns of old.  But that is not a real issue if like me you like to update your surroundings regularly.  I will keep you posted on what I decide to make.
