Trip to a local craft fair

Jun 09 2014

We went to visit a local small town arts and craft fair recently. It was about the size I love with perhaps about a dozen stalls including a plant stall doing a brisk trade and someone else selling some pictures and household bric a brac. Prices of goods ranged from 50p to over £100

These fairs usually have someone selling products made from glass whether it be stained glass or melted glass, on this occasion it was beautiful handmade glass jewellery, I only just resisted a gorgeous iridescent green pendant.

Incredibly eyecatching was a burnt orange oriental pattern and black stitched quilt.  There were some cute little fabric mice, sweet little knitted glove puppets and practical cotton dishcloths.

I was amused by the antics of a small terrier who decorously walked around displays until it espied a rabbit doorstop.  Having been restrained from reaching it the dog then helped itself to a doll out of a basket display on the floor and then refused to give it up.  The owner naturally paid for it.  Exit one proud dog with new toy leaving behind one bemused stall holder.

I always come away from these events admiring the skills of other crafters,  the appreciation of just how much time and effort creating items takes and the realisation that there so many crafts yet to try.
