Waxed! Crafty Pets lesley Taylor Oct 30 2020 Some of the pinecones have now been waxed. Listed is a step by step guide to waxing pine cones Aunty Biscuit style so perhaps not an ideal method but if your human gives it a go make sure they take care as hot things can burn. Dogs need to keep well out of the way. Ingredients Cups of tea (you can substitute with cups of coffee if desired),1 box of commercial cherry bakewells – for a seasonal twist you could use mince pies,. 1 dry clean empty chicken soup tin (a baked bean or dog food tin is also suitable) Dried pinecones, Cotton string or leftover candle wick. broken bits of candle and/or leftover wax from a candlemaking kit, a pan with water in it. Method. Eat the cherry bakewells washing them down with the tea and retain the little foil cup that they were in. This should be spread over several attempts. Was and dry the cups. When they are all ready line them up on the kitchen worktop. Tie a bit of string tightly round the top of each pine cone and set the water in the pan on to heat. Put the bits of wax/candle in the tin and place carefully in the water and stir occasionally as the wax melts. Once the wax has melted dip each pinecone into the wax and place it into a foil cup. Switch the heat off and re-dip each pinecone a few times. As the wax cools slightly, it thickens and builds up a better coating. Once happy with the coating leave to cool in the little cups and the drips of wax on the kitchen worktop also. The wax in the tin can be kept for reheating to do the next batch. Once the wax on the worktop is cool it can be scraped off with a finger nail, knife or similar although if you don’t like living life on the edge you could put some old newspaper on the worktop before starting proceedings. mmmm
