Aunty Biscuits theory is that gooseberries are evil.  This has been compounded by Mum picking some and deciding to make rhubarb and gooseberry jam with it.  Aunty Biscuit was assisting in the process whilst whinging.  To make jam the gooseberries need topping and tailing.  They had 4lb of gooseberries (roughly 2kg) which added up to a lot of gooseberries to prepare.  The rhubarb was easy.  Amazingly the recipe didn’t require water but Aunty Biscuit says that this is because a gooseberry is basically a bag of flavoured water with far too many seeds for her liking.  She is probably right as once everything was heated and bursting it went like normal jam.  Mum is being “encouraged” to make jelly with the rest of the crop.
