A typical sunday evening

May 03 2015

I’m fully stretched out on one sofa supervising mum who is sewing.  Well technically she is mending a horse rug.  Instead of a normal thread she is using craft thread which is very strong and a pair of pliers. Bizarre.  The pliers it would seem replace a thimble and are used to grab the needle and pull it through.  Despite a normal everyday needle being used, she hasn’t broken one yet much to my surprise.   The rug in question is 6ft 3inch, I feel this would be perfect for keeping me dry if it rains like it did this morning, but mum says it would be a little bit big for me.

Aunty Jo is currently scrabbling about on the floor repairing a slightly chewed dog bed, (nothing to do with any of the occupants here) this involves a combination of duct taping damaged foam and preparing some fabric for sewing.  I had thought it was called duck tape and imagined it was used for taping ducks but apparently it has loads of different names and uses.  Things are expected to liven up shortly as it is nigh on 15 years since she last used a sewing machine in home economics at school.  Had I realised earlier I would have sold tickets.

Harrier, my brother is curled up on the other sofa supervising aunty biscuit who is alternating between sewing up some amorphous object that will no doubt eventually emerge as a rectangular blanket for the local dogs home and scratching him behind the ears.  I’m a bit put out as I’m sure she would be better employed rubbing my tummy.  All these activities seem to require copious amounts of tea and chocolate as well as a background of random detective stories.

mmmm

Tickets should have indeed been sold to watch Aunty Jo use a sewing machine....who would have thought that fixing the yellow labrador's bed would have taken three hours! It must now be an inch thicker and of industrial strength! The proof will be in the next sleep over! Thanks Aunty Nix for the help!

Nicola Preston  I am pleased to announce that the sewing machine survived the evening too. It was a great to see you. Let me know how Yellow Labrador gets on with his modified bed....
