Cactus Tea Cosy.



Here you will find a free knitting pattern for a Cactus themed tea cosy prepared in double knitting yarn.  The free knitting pattern below produces a beautiful tea cosy, which could be prepared in a variety of colours.  Here we have chosen green and cream to give the cacti effect seen in the photographs.

Requirements:

4mm Needles 
3.25mm Needles 
3mm Crochet Hook 
1 x 100g of double knitting yarn in green 
1 x 20g of double knitting yarn in cream 

Wool Needle  

Instructions:

Tension 22sts or 30 rows to 10cm, using stocking stitch on 4 mm needles

Body of Tea Cosy (make 2):

Using 3.25mm needles and the green yarn cast on 42 stitches.   

 

Rib:  [K1, P1] to end.
Repeat this row a further 5 times, working 6 rows in total. 
Change to 4mm needles and commence pattern thus:- 
Row 1: Knit to end (using green) 
Row 2: Purl to end (using green)
Row 3: Knit to end (using green)  
Row 4: Purl to end (using green)   
Row 5: Knit to end (using green) 
Row 6: Purl to end (using green) 
Row 7: Knit to end (using green)   
Row 8: Knit to end (using cream)

Continue in pattern until the total length measures 5 inches ending with an even numbered row. 
Keeping continuity of pattern commence shaping as follows: 
Shape row 1: [K5, K2tog] to end. 
Shape row 2: Purl to end 
Shape row 3: Knit to end 
Shape row4: Purl to end 
Shape row 5: [K4, K2tog] to end. 
Shape row 6: Purl to end 
Shape row 7: [K3, K2tog] to end. 
Shape row 8: Purl to end 
Shape row 9: [K2, K2tog] to end. 
Shape row 10: Purl to end 
Shape row 11: [K1, K2tog] to end. 
Shape row 12: Purl to end 
Shape row 13: [K2tog] to end   
Break yarn and thread remaining stitches through it, gather tightly and fasten off

 

 


To make Up:

Join tops of tea cosy together.  If available fit around tea pot and mark the points at which the spout and handle will need to fit through the tea cosy.  Remove the tea pot and join the sides together, leaving ends gaps for the spout and handle.  Secure ends and sew in
