Summer Top for Tiny tears or equivalent 16" Doll


Brighten up your tiny tears wardrobe with this short sleeved summer jumper.  It is an ideal way of using up oddments and for an inexperienced knitter is an ideal practice piece as it incorporates colour changes, some shaping and picking up stitches.
  

Requirements:

1 x 25g Ball of double knitting Wool in cream
10x oddments of coloured double knitting wool (colours in picture: peach, mid blue, lemon, burnt orange, mint green, navy blue, pale blue, pale pink, gold and mid green)
1 x 3.25mm Knitting Needles
1 x 4mm Knitting Needles
1x safety pin
3x stitch holders
Wool Needle for stitching up.

Instructions:

Tension 22sts or 28 rows to 10cm, using stocking stitch on 4.0 mm needles

Back (make 1):
Using 3.25mm needles cast on 33 stitches in colour A (Cream). 
Row 1:  [K1, P1] to last st, K1
Row 2:  [P1, K1] to last st, P1
Repeat these 2 rows once more (4 rows in total).
Change to 4mm needles and Colour B (peach) work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour C (mid Blue) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour D (Lemon) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour E (burnt orange) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour F (mint green) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour G (navy) and cast off 2 sts at beginning of row, Knit to end (31sts)
Next Row: Cast off 2 sts at beginning of row, Purl to end. (29sts)
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to colour H (pale blue),
Next Row: K1, S1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1 (27 sts)
Next Row: Purl to end
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to colour I (pale pink)
Next Row K1, S1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (25sts)
Next Row: Purl to end
Work 2 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to colour J (gold),
Next Row K1, S1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1. (23sts)

Next Row: Purl to end Change to colour K (mid green)

Slip the remaining 15 sts onto a holder.

Front (make 1):
Using 3.25mm needles cast on 33 stitches in colour A (Cream). 
Row 1:  [K1, P1] to last st, K1
Row 2:  [P1, K1] to last st, P1
Repeat these 2 rows once more (4 rows in total).
Change to 4mm needles and Colour B (peach) work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour C (mid Blue) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour D (Lemon) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour E (burnt orange) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour F (mint green) and work 4 rows in stocking stitch.
Change to Colour G (navy) and cast off 2 sts at beginning of row, knit to end (31sts)
Next Row: Cast off 2 sts, purl until there are 14 sts on the right hand needle, turn and complete this side first.

Slip the 5 remaining sts onto a holder.


To make up:

Join the front raglans and the back left raglan.  Using colour A, with right side facing and using 3.25mm needles, knit the 15 sts from the back increasing 1 st at the centre, knit 5sts from the left sleeve holder, pick up and knit 20 sts from the left front slope, knit the stitch from the safety pin (marking it if required), pick up and knit 20sts from the right front slope then knit the 5 sts from the right sleeve holder. (67 sts total).

Row 1: P1,[K1,P1] until 2 sts before centre stitch, P2tog, P1, P2tog tbl [P1,K1] to final stitch, P1.
Row 2 [K1,P1] until 2 sts before centre, S1, K1,PSSO, k1, k2tog, [P1,K1] to end
Row 3: P1, [K1,P1] until 2 sts before centre stitch, P2tog, P1, P2tog tbl, [P1,K1] to final st, P1.
Row 4, Cast off in rib, decreasing around the centre stitch as per row 2.

Join the remaining raglan seam and the neckband ends.
Sew in any stray ends.
Join side and sleeve seams.
