Spring Outfit for Tiny Tears or similar sized 16" Doll


This free knitting pattern is for a complete outfit for a 16" doll (equivalent to Tiny Tears in size) using a self patterning yarn.  With the exception of the booties this tiny tears outfit is simple to make and would suit anyone with a basic idea of shaping.

40cm of Shiring Elastic

30cm of Round Elastic

30cm of Strand Elastic

5 x Press-Studs

5 x Small Buttons (optional)

2 x 100g of double knitting variegated yarn

Wool Needle 

 

Instructions:

Tension 24sts or 30 rows to 10cm, using stocking stitch on 33/4 mm needles

Abbreviation     Meaning

sts                        Stitches

P                          Purl (number after it refers to how many stitches to Purl)

K                         Knit (number after it refers to how many stitches to knit)

S1                        Slip next stitch without knitting it

K2tog                  Knit two together (knit next two stitches together as if they were a single stitch (decreasing a stitch)

P2tog                   Purl two together (knit next two stitches together as if they were a single stitch (decreasing a stitch)

PSSO                  Pass Slip Stitch Over

M1                       Increase 1 stitch into the next stitch by knitting into the front and back of the stitch.

[ ]                         Repeat instructions within [ ] as specified by the instruction directly following the bracket

 

Pattern: Bootees (make 2 alike)

 

Using 3.25 mm needles, cast on 23 sts.

K3 rows.

Commence pattern

Row 1:  knit to end

Row 2:  P2, K1, [P5, K1] repeat fromto last 2 st  ,P2

Row 3:  Knit to end

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6:  [P5, K1] repeat to last 5 sts, P5

Row 7: Knit to end

Row 8: Purl to end

Next row: K15, turn.

Next row: K7, turn

Work 6 rows in K on these 7 stitches.  Break yarn.

Rejoin yarn to sts on the left hand needle.

Pick up and knit 7sts along 1 side of the instep, 7sts on the toe, 7sts down other side of instep, k across the 8 remaining sts (37 sts total).

Knit a further 5 rows

Foot shaping:

Row 1:  K1, K2tog, K10, S1, K2tog, PSSO, K5, S1 k2tog, PSSO, K10, K2tog, k1 (31sts)

Row 2:  Knit to end

Row 3:  K1, K2tog, K8, S1,K2tog, PSSO, K3, S1 K2tog, PSSO, K8, K2tog, K1 (26sts)

Row 4: Knit to end

Cast off.

To make up Booties.

Sew in all loose ends and sew up the seam.  Thread a little shirring elastic around the top of each bootee.

Pattern: Back of Trousers (Make 1).

Leg 1.

Using 4mm needles cast on 16 sts.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] repeat to end.

Repeat this row a further 5 times (6 rows in total)

Row 7:  rib 2 [M1, P1] repeat to end (23 sts)

Commence pattern

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  P2, K1 [P5, K1] repeat to last 2 sts, P2

Row 3: Knit to end

Row 4: Purl to end

Row 5: Knit to end

Row 6:  [P5, K1] repeat to last 5 sts, P5

Row 7:  Knit to end

Row 8:  Purl to end

Work until 26 rows of pattern has been worked, ending with a purl row.  Leave these stitches on a holder or spare needle.

Leg 2.

Using 4mm needles cast on 16 sts.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] repeat to end.

Repeat this row a further 5 times (6 rows in total)

Row 7:  rib 2 [M1, P1] repeat to end (23 sts)

Commence pattern

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  P2, K1 [P5, K1] repeat to last 2 sts, P2

Row 3: Knit to end

Row 4: Purl to end

Row 5: Knit to end

Row 6:  [P5, K1] repeat to last 5 sts, P5

Row 7:  Knit to end

Row 8:  Purl to end

Work until 26 rows of pattern has been worked, ending with a purl row. 

Next row: knit across these stitches and then the ones on the spare needle. (46 sts)

Work 20 rows in stocking stitch

Shape rows

Row 1:  Knit to last 6 sts, turn

Row 2:  Purl to last 6 sts, turn.

Row 3:  Knit to last 12 sts, turn.

Row 4:  Purl to last 12 sts, turn.

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6:  Purl to end

Change to 3.75mm needles.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] to end.

Repeat this row a further 7 times (8 rows of rib in total)

Cast off.

Pattern: Front of Trousers (Make 1).

Leg 1.

Using 4mm needles cast on 16 sts.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] repeat to end.

Repeat this row a further 5 times (6 rows in total)

Row 7:  rib 2 [M1, P1] repeat to end (23 sts)

Commence pattern

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  P2, K1 [P5, K1] repeat to last 2 sts, P2

Row 3:  Knit to end

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6:  [P5, K1] repeat to last 5 sts, P5

Work until 26 rows of pattern has been worked, ending with a purl row.  Leave these stitches on a holder or spare needle.

Leg 2.

Using 4mm needles cast on 16 sts.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] repeat to end.

Repeat this row a further 5 times (6 rows in total)

Row 7:  rib 2 [M1, P1] repeat to end (23 sts)

Row 2:  P2, K1 [P5, K1] repeat to last 2 sts, P2

Work until 26 rows of pattern has been worked, ending with a purl row. 

Next row:  Knit across these stitches and then the ones on the spare needle. (46 sts)

Work 20 rows in stocking stitch

Change to 3.75mm needles.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] to end.

Repeat this row a further 7 times (8 rows of rib in total)

Cast off.

To make up Trousers

Sew in all loose ends.  Sew up leg seams and side seams.  Fold cast off edge over inside to start of ribbing and stitch into place, leaving a small gap to thread 4 strand elastic through the gap and secure. Stitch up the closed.

Pattern: Front of Jumper (Make 1).

Using 4mm needles cast on 35sts.

Row 1:  K1 [P1, K1] repeat to end

Row 2:  P1 [K1, P1] repeat to end

Repeat these two rows twice more (6 rows in total).

Commence pattern

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  P2, K1 [P5, K1] repeat to last 2 sts, P2

Row 3:  Knit to end

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6:  [P5, K1] repeat to last 5 sts, P5

Row 7:  Knit to end

Row 8:  Purl to end

Continue in pattern until 36 rows have been worked.

Next row:  K12, turn and work on these stitches first keeping continuity of pattern.

Dec 1 sts on the neck edge for the next 2 rows.

Pattern 3 rows without shaping then cast off.

Slip the next 11 sts onto a holder.  Rejoin yarn and pattern to end.

Dec 1 sts on neck edge for the next 2 rows.

Pattern 3 rows without shaping then cast off.

Pattern: Back of Jumper (Make 2 alike).

Using 4mm needles cast on 17 sts

Row 1:  K1 [P1, K1] repeat to end

Row 2:  P1 [K1, P1] repeat to end

Repeat these two rows twice more (6 rows in total).

Commence pattern

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  P2, K1 [P5, K1] repeat to last 2 sts, P2

Row 3:  Knit to end

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6:  [P5, K1] repeat to last 5 sts, P5

Row 7:  Knit to end

Row 8:  Purl to end

Continue until 42 rows of pattern have been worked.

Cast off.

Pattern: Sleeves of Jumper (Make 2 alike).

Using 4mm needles cast on 24 sts.

Row 1:  [K1, P1] repeat to end.

Repeat this row a further 5 times (6 rows in total).

Commence pattern, increasing 1 st at each end of the 3rd and every following 4th row until there are 32 sts, (keep the continuity of the pattern by incorporating the new sts). Sleeve pattern:

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  [P5 ,K1] repeat to end

Row 3:  Knit to end

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6: P2, K1, [P5, K1] repeat to last 3 sts, P3

Row 7: Knit to end

Row 8:  Purl to end

Pattern an additional 2 rows.  Cast off.

Neckband

Join shoulder seams by stitching cast off edges of the front to the corresponding 10 sts on each of the back pieces.

Using 3.75mm needles and starting at the left back edge, pick up and knit 8sts from left side of the back, 6sts from left side of front, the 11 sts from the front neck, (on the stitch holder) then 6sts from right side of front and 8 sts from right back neck. (39sts).

Commence rib as follows

Row 1: K1 [P1, K1] repeat to end

Row 2: P1 [K1, P1] repeat to end

Repeat rows 1 & 2 once and then row 1 once more (5 rows  of rib worked in total)

Cast off in rib.

Left button band.

Using 3.75mm needles and starting at the lower edge, pick up and knit 42 sts up the left back piece.  Knit 5 rows.  Cast off.

Right button band.

Using 3.75 needles and starting at the upper edge, pick up and knit 42 sts along right back piece.  K5 rows.  Cast off.

To make up Jumper.

Sew in loose ends.  Fold sleeves in half lengthways and mark center of cast off edges. Matching center stitch to shoulder seam, pin sleeve to front and back.  Sew evenly in place. Sew down length of sleeve and side seams.  Sew press-studs evenly down back button bands.  Add optional decorative buttons over the press-studs if desired.

Pattern:  Hat (Make 1).

Using 4mm needles, cast on 73 sts.

Commence rib as follows

Row 1: K1 [P1, K1] repeat to end

Row 2: P1 [K1, P1] repeat to end

Repeat these 2 rows twice more (working 6 rows in total).

Commence pattern:

Row 1:  Knit to end

Row 2:  [P5 ,K1] repeat to last stitch, P1

Row 3:  Knit to end

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  Knit to end

Row 6: P2, K1, [P5, K1] repeat to last 4 sts, P4

Row 7: Knit to end

Row 8:  Purl to end

Continue in pattern until until 18 rows have been worked.

Shape top. (worked in stocking stitch)

Row 1:  [K2, K2tog] repeat to last stitch, K1 (55sts)

Row 2:  Purl to end

Row 3:  [K2, K2tog] repeat to last 3 stitches, K3 (42sts)

Row 4:  Purl to end

Row 5:  [K1, K2tog] repeat to end (28sts)

Row 6:  Purl to end

Row 7:  [K1, K2tog] repeat to end (19sts)

Row 8:  Purl to end

Row 9:  [K2tog] repeat to last stitch, K1. (10sts).

Break yarn and pull through remaining stitches, draw up tightly and fasten off.

To make up.

Sew down center back seam.  Thread some round elastic through first row of rib.
