Childs Labrador Scarf

This free knitting pattern for a labrador scarf is from the Nixneedles Novelty Knits collection.
This free knitting pattern for a labrador scarf was designed for a lady called Cheryl as a present for a little girl who had fallen in love with her dog and I must say a heart felt thank you to her for the idea as it has now become one of my favorite knitting patterns.  It is made from double knitting yarn and uses 4mm needles.

This labrador scarf from the Nixneedles Novelty Knits has some fiddly shaping in places so will not suit anyone new to knitting.  It will take about 15 to 20 hours to complete depending on experience.

This item is also available to purchase from the Nixneedles shop.

To make up

Sew in all ends.  Carefully position the back legs to lie along side the body and using a loose stitch tie the hind limbs to the body just before the shaping for the paw where they touch the body.

Sew together the tip of the muzzle by joining the cast off edge to the side of the stocking stitch.  Sew together the underside of the jaw leaving the mouth still open, and sufficient room at the neck end to add stuffing.  Carefully position the tongue within the mouth and secure so that the tip protrudes from the jaw.  Carefully sew the mouth closed.  Attach the nose onto the tip of the muzzle and secure.  Carefully position the eyes in the eye sockets, as marked by the stitch markers.  Be sure to remove the markers prior to securely attaching the eyes.

Add stuffing to the head and arrange to the correct shape.  Position the ears as required onto the sides of the head and then securely sew up the hole at the top of the head.  Lightly iron the scarf as required.

This scarf is not a toy.  Children should be not be left unsupervised with this scarf.  Small parts on this scarf notably the bells and eyes could be a choking hazard and the scarf should be checked regularly to ensure they remain securely attached.
