Messy pups

Yesterday Aunty Biscuit took Mum to the pottery painting shop in Northallerton.  They both had a really good time although their projects need to go into a kiln.  Given that Aunty Biscuit is the messy one of the pair you can imagine my surprise to discover that  it was Mum who had managed to get paint all over her hands.  Fortunately it washed off easily so I then allowed her to pet me.  (I didn’t fancy pale green ears).  Today Mum has been doing something with googley eyes and glue, I kept well out of the way just in case she got that on her.

Hoovering

Despite having delicate shapely legs and fine boned facial features I must admit I can be prone towards a hint of chubbiness in other areas if my diet isn’t monitored and portion controlled.  The collie does not have this problem and sometimes leaves one or two nuggets of wheat free mixer.  Unfortunately this evening was one of them.  Applying the principles of thrift and waste not want not I was just hoovering up the leftovers  when Aunty Biscuit appeared.  As she has been reminded numerous times not to overfeed me, she told me off.  I hope she doesn’t sprag to Mum.

Cookery competition

We’ve had Aunty Biscuit minding us this evening whilst Mum was doing something grey pony related.  After a quick game of claim the lap we settled down to supervise her doing some pompom making whilst watching a cookery competition.  Unfortunately it was breadmaking week, so even if it had given her any ideas we wouldn’t have been allowed to sample it.  Some of the designs were quite artistic that they came up with.  One lady did a snake but I think in balance I prefer the snake scarves that Mum knits, but I’m a bit biased.

Bouncing

Did I tell you Mum has been given the use of a trampoline?.  Apparently it should improve her core muscle strength and thus her riding.  As part of our morning routine she has a few bounces before going to work now.  She says that she feels better for it.  It all seems very up and down to me.  I'm relieved its Mum and not Aunty Biscuit that is doing it. I believe Aunty Biscuit agrees with me on that score.

Sunflowers

Mum bought a couple of sunflower plants the other day, they are a lovely yellow colour which should brighten the garden considerably provided none of us dig them up.  If she promises not to plant them in our sandpits she should be ok.  As well as being pretty flowers, the seeds of the sunflower can be used for bird food.  Talking of birds , its chicken night wahoo!

Invisible thread

Mum is repairing a hemline on a dress.  Unfortunately she is using invisible thread.  So called because you can’t see it.  She is having problems with an invisible knot.  Aunty Biscuit has a spool of invisible thread at her house that she can’t find.  Surely the clue is in the name???  I suppose that the advantages are that if stitching is a little uneven it won’t show and it does for all colours.  As it looks a bit like very thin fishing line I suspect it is also very strong.

Hmmmm...

Granny Biscuit told Aunty Biscuit about threading a particular breakfast cereal onto pipe cleaners for bird food.  It sounds like her and Mum are possibly going to give it a try.  Left to me the birds would be lucky to be given anything as they cheat even more than frogs by flying away if chased. I think they should provide them something more challenging.  I’m pondering on the possibly elastic as then the birds could bungee jump whilst feeding.  Given that Mum now has a piece of wood for drilling purposes maybe she could drill holes in cornflakes instead of using the ones with the holes ready made.  Then again perhaps not, as it would take a lot of time and patience that would be better spent on us.

More mystery

Following my earlier teaser regarding Halloween I can report that it involves but is not exclusively, pompoms.  Given Mums liking for pompom,s no surprise there then.  Colourwise Harrier has been seen wandering around with a bit of orange yarn stuck to his back paw, Mum dropped a small piece of black onto the cream carpet.  There is also a ball of variegated grey hanging about the place, yarn that is – not pony.  On top of this I’m also having to supervise Aunty Biscuit creating character eyes in various sizes.

Button holes

The world is full of exciting things, I personally would not put a prepared length of wood forward as one of them, much as I accept that stick collecting is a favoured collie pastime.  Aunty Biscuit has been having a piece of fence repaired, and very pleased she is with it too.  There was an offcut piece of wood which Mum pounced on.  I assumed it was either to practice pyrography on or the human equivalent of a collie stick but no.  Apparently its perfect for putting under polymer buttons when drilling holes in them.  They baffle me at times.

Gooseberries, good or bad?

Aunty Biscuits theory is that gooseberries are evil.  This has been compounded by Mum picking some and deciding to make rhubarb and gooseberry jam with it.  Aunty Biscuit was assisting in the process whilst whinging.  To make jam the gooseberries need topping and tailing.  They had 4lb of gooseberries (roughly 2kg) which added up to a lot of gooseberries to prepare.  The rhubarb was easy.  Amazingly the recipe didn’t require water but Aunty Biscuit says that this is because a gooseberry is basically a bag of flavoured water with far too many seeds for her liking.  She is probably right as once everything was heated and bursting it went like normal jam.  Mum is being “encouraged” to make jelly with the rest of the crop.
