One of the little things that has brought a bit of colour and cheer to life recently has been a self seeded sunflower plant in the chicken yard.  We think it came from wild bird seed that had dropped into a crack in the concrete, but against the odds it grew and produced beautiful multi flowers at the top.  Tragically it has fallen over so mum fought the chickens for its mortal remains and won, hence the flowers are now spending their time as an arrangement in a vase. The vibrant yellow is similar to a yarn used in a number of projects such as the bumble bee hat or for the diggers in the jumpers.  It could also be used instead of a paler yarn for the child’s character hat.
